FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT LASER HAIR REMOVAL

bulletWHAT LASER DO YOU USE?

We use the LightSheer(tm) Diode Laser. It emits a light wavelength of 800 nanometers which is the optimum for being absorbed by the melanin in the hair, but less so by skin cells without melanin. Once absorbed by melanin, the light turns to heat and vaporizes the hair.

bulletHOW MANY TREATMENTS DOES IT TAKE?

At any given time, depending on what part of the body we are treating, 10% to 30% of your hair is in the anagen phase (the phase of active hair growth). Because there are three phases of hair growth and you can only permanently kill a hair in the anagen phase, it will take about 5 treatments to clear an area.

bulletWHEN SHOULD I COME BACK?

When you have the treatment, almost all the hair in that area will be vaporized but only 10% to 30% of them will be in the phase that can kill the root. For this reason, it is very important to come in as soon as the hair starts to grow back, approximately 4 to 6 weeks after treatment.

bulletIS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PERMANENT?

Damage to the hair follicle can remove unwanted hair permanently, however, the nature of hair, and the many factors that influence the growth of hair, mean that results may vary. The effect of repeated treatments is cumulative and most people experience long-term hair removal.

bulletIS IT PAINFUL?

No treatment to remove hair is painless, however, because the LightSheer(tm) Diode Laser is fast, and the tip of the laser is cooled with “chilltip” technology, the discomfort is reduced considerably and most people liken it to a rubber band snapping on their skin. If large or sensitive areas are treated, a topical anesthetic cream may be applied to further reduce any discomfort.

bulletWHAT HAPPENS WHEN I COME IN?

On the first visit you will fill out a chart to determine your skin type. This information is used to determine the best laser settings for you. We then do a small test area to fine-tune the laser settings. After completing the test area, you will know how it feels and be able to decide if you need a topical anesthetic (no profit is made on the anesthetic but it is not included in your treatment price). We then begin treatment.

bulletHOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

This depends on the area of treatment. For instance, each treatment for the lip and chin area will take 10 to 15 minutes and the underarms will take 15 to 20 minutes, However, the legs may take 30 minutes to an hour depending on how much of the legs we do. The same is true of the bikini area. A light bikini will take 15 minutes, whereas a heavier or more extensive treatment in the bikini area could take 35 minutes.

bulletHOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We have a set charge per treatment area/per treatment session or $1 per pulse, whichever is less. Please check out our fee schedule for details.
